Aroids are a diverse group of plants that belong to the Araceae family and include many popular houseplants such as Peace Lillies, Anthuriums, Philodendrons, Monsteras, ZZ Plants and Alocasias. Being known for their attractive foliage and unique flowers, aroids are native to tropical and subtropical regions and are found on all continents except for Antarctica.

In the wild, aroids often grow on the rainforest floor and have adapted to surviving in many different types of conditions. To assist you in providing the best potting medium and substrate, we have our stand-out, best selling Aroid Mix that has been formulated with over eight high quality products to best replicate the soil and environmental conditions your aroid plant needs.

This mix includes: Horticulture charcoal, bark, coarse perlite, horticulture pumice, coco chips, vermiculite, propagation sand, and a few other substrate delights.

Plants: Monsteras, Pothos, Philodendrons, Scindapsus, ZZ Plants, and Alocasias.

Understanding the key ingredients: 

Coco Chips: Coco chips are made from the fibrous outer shell of coconuts and are lightweight and airy, providing your plants with superior aeration. Being an excellent alternative to peat moss, coco chips are sustainable and eco-friendly making them an excellent choice for the conscientious gardeners amongst us.

They come pre-washed and buffered and between 7mm-12mm so you can get started on the road to growing success right away.

Perlite: Perlite is a popular ingredient in potting mixes and for good reason. In being a type of lightweight and non-toxic volcanic glass, perlite is specially designed to help improve drainage, aeration, and moisture retention in your growing medium thereby giving your plants access to the nutrition they need to achieve robust health and strong root development.

Orchid Pine Bark: Orchid pine bark, or Orchiata, is a natural, organic produce made from Pinus radiata bark from renewable forests in New Zealand. Orchiata pine bark gives consistent hydration, is pH balanced, will not break down in the pot, maximises the availability of nutrients for your plant, and contains beneficial pathogen-resistant micro-organisms that in turn promote healthier roots.

Growers using Orchiata report a reduced need to repot as well as vigorous growth and optimised plant production and health. Orchiata products are produced from sustainable and renewable resources. 

Pumice: Pumice is a volcanic rock that is highly porous and lightweight. It provides optimal drainage, aeration, retaining moister and is an excellent ingredient for your aroid mix. Pumice is pH-neutral and does not breakdown making it long-lasting and price effective over the long term.

We prepare and package all substrates by hand to ensure quality control and the provision of premium products.

Packaging:

Our Chunky Aroid Mix is combined and packaged by hand. Please bear in mind that this product may be quite heavy depending on what size and/or number of bags you order.

One 5L bag weighs just over 2KGs. I do not advise ordering it with plants for shipping and if you wish to order more than one bag, this can be subject to additional shipping charges and non-express shipping. If this is the case, you will be contacted before the order is sent to you. 

Note: I have found this mix to be perfect from plants ranging in pot sizes from 100mm all the way up to 200mm with out any additional additives. Please also keep in mind that is a non soil mix so watering and overall plant care will change if you have never used an aroid mix before.
