Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Bee's Knees Nursery?

The Bee's Knees Nursery is a small, boutique nursery owned and operated by me, and is located in the beautiful Wide Bay region of Queensland, Australia. Our focus and speciality is in indoor foliage plants and providing you with all you need to provide the best possible environment for your indoor plant oasis to flourish.

Our standout product line is that of our premium, high-quality substrates. These include our Chunky Aroid Mix, Anthurium Mix and a number of other soilless creations catering for your plant's needs.

When buying new to established plants from us, they are carefully cultivated, propagated, and nurtured by hand and are sold to you with a minimum of 3-5 (sometimes more) leaves and a well established root system.

Can I visit your nursery?

Sadly, we are not open to the public and keep strict plant quarantine protocols in place as many of our plants are grown onsite.

What are your hours of operation?

Our nursery is an online store and is operational 24/7. We always endeavour to respond to your questions and purchase requests within 48 hours. This can change due to public holidays or basically, just 'life' getting in the way but this rarely happens.

What kind of plants do you have available?

We specialise in rare and collectible plants with a particular focus on Monsteras and Scindapsus'. Our range, however, is extensive and when available, many of the plants sell out quite quickly so if you find they are 'sold out', do not be dismayed, there will be more for sale when available.

Please note, our plants are at their premium during Spring and Summer and like many of us, go dormant and into 'sleep-mode' during the colder months. I do not rush quality and will not forfeit a healthy, happy, thriving plant for quantity (sold).

Where do you source your plants from?

We propagate the majority of our own plants from cuttings or seed from our own 'mother' plants. We use traditional, tried and tested propagation techniques; no tissue culture (TC), however, from time to time, we may also source plants from only the highest quality and reputable providers here in Queensland.

When will my plant arrive?

We send all live plant orders on Mondays only to minimise how long your plants are in transit for and to reduce the risk of any possible weekend delays. For example, if you place an order on a Tuesday, it will be packed and sent on the following Monday. Orders placed after 3pm on Sunday will also be sent the next Monday (8 days later).

What if my plant has marks and/or blemishes?

It is to be expected that plants may naturally have small imperfections or blemishes on the foliage however, this does not have any affect on their overall health or future growth. We do all we can at The Bee's Knees Nursery to ensure this does not happen but as living things, plants are never completely spotless and blemish free.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

On the rare chance that your plant is damaged in the delivery process, please email us at info@thebeeskneesnursery.com including photos of all packaging components and plants received within 24 hours of delivery. Once we receive your email and photos, we can determine the best solution.

If your plant looks like it has wilted during transit, we recommend giving it some water right away - this should help it to recover and settle into its new environment.

Why does my plant look different in size and shape to the one on the website?

Every plant is unique and we always take a good cross section of photos before sharing them with you on our website. While we aim to ensure you can see them from every angle that we can too, the plant you receive may vary slightly in size, colour or shape. They are, after all, living things and natural variation is to be expected.

Why does the variegation differ in the plant I received to the plant I saw on the website?

Variegation in many plants can change over time and may be influenced by several factors including, but not limited to, light, temperature, humidity, nutrient levels and genetics. As with any variegated plant, we do not guarantee the ongoing level, pattern, or intensity of variegation after purchase.

Can you just sell me a cutting?

No, sorry. We only sell fully rooted and healthy growing plants.

Can I return my plant if I have changed my mind?

No, we do not accept 'change of mind' returns for live plants.

How do I contact you?

All you need to do is fill in the 'Contact Form' at the bottom of the website and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We strive to ensure that takes no longer than 24 hours during standard work days.
